Navratri is a nine-day Hindu festival celebrated in honor of the goddess Durga. Navratri means “nine nights” in Sanskrit, nava meaning nine and ratri meaning night. The festival is also known as Sharad Navratri and is celebrated during the month of Ashvin, the first month of the Hindu lunar calendar.

The Navratri festival honors the victory of good over evil and is a time to celebrate the goddesses who represent different aspects of Shakti, or divine feminine energy. Each day of Navratri is dedicated to a different form of Shakti, with the ninth and final day devoted to Mataji, or Mother Goddess.

On the third day of Navratri, we honor the goddess Durga, who is the embodiment of strength and power. Durga is also known as Kali, Chamunda, and Bhadrakali. She is usually depicted riding a lion or tiger and carrying a trident and a sword.

Durga is the force that protects us from evil and destruction. She is the one who gives us the strength to overcome our fears and obstacles. We invoke her on this day to give us courage and power to face our challenges.

Let us meditate on the energy of Durga and ask for her blessing on this third day of Navratri.

Navratri is a nine-day Hindu festival celebrated in the autumn every year. The festival is dedicated to the worship of Goddess Durga and her nine avatars. On the third day of Navratri, devotees worship Goddess Maha Gauri, who is considered to be the most beautiful form of Goddess Durga.

Maha Gauri is usually depicted as a fair-complexioned woman with four arms and holding a trident and lotus in two of her hands. She is also sometimes shown riding a white bull. Her name literally means ‘the great goddess who is as white as jasmine’.

Legend has it that when Lord Shiva was nursing his anger after the death of his first wife Sati, Goddess Gauri appeared in front of him in her most beautiful form to pacify him. It is believed that if one worships Goddess Maha Gauri with a true heart, all their desires will be fulfilled.

On this day, devotees offer prayers and Puja to Goddess Maha Gauri and seek her blessings. You can also chant the following mantra on this day to please the goddess:
