Govardhan Pooja is celebrated on the first day of the Hindu lunar month of Kartik. It marks the end of the four-month long period of fasting known as Chaturmas. Govardhan Pooja is also known as Annakut Pooja and is observed by worshipping Govardhan Hill made of cow dung.
The Govardhan Hill is placed on a platform and decorated with flowers, fruits and vegetables. Offerings of food are made to Govardhan Hill and then distributed to all the devotees present.
